UCLA Westwood Replacement Hospital, Los Angeles, CA

J.R. Conkey worked with the URS/O’Brien Kreitzberg Joint Venture team and provided on site cost estimating and construction management services.       

The UCLA Westwood Center for Health Sciences, which was primarily constructed in the 1950’s, suffered significant structural damage as a result of the 1994 Northridge earthquake. A new state-of-the-art replacement hospital was slated to open in late 2004 after nearly 6 years under construction and a project cost at nearly $400 million in 1998 dollars.  It includes a 1,100,000 gross square foot replacement hospital and two health sciences research laboratories of approximately 130,000 gross square feet each. 


Coalinga State Hospital, Coalinga, CA  

J.R. Conkey worked with the Turner/Vanir Joint Venture team and provided construction management and related services for the new Coalinga State Hospital (CSH).  This facility is capable of housing and treating 1,500 patients committed to the Deptartment of Mental Health.  The CSH is comprised of 8 treatment programs containing a total of 31 housing/treatment units.  Twenty-eight typical treatment units will house 50 patients each.  The remaining 3 units will be an infirmary unit with 50 beds, an orientation unit with 30 beds and a transition unit with 20 beds.  The CSH also include all necessary treatment, administrative, program and service components including a production kitchen, plant operations compound, warehouse, central plant and wastewater treatment facility.


Lancaster Veteran’s Home, Lancaster, CA

J.R. Conkey & Associates is teamed with URS Corporation on the overall project and is the Construction Manager for the Lancaster site.  The project is collectively known as “GLAVC” (Greater Los Angeles and Ventura County) and consists of the construction of three new Veterans Homes, all of which are part of a multi-campus Veterans Home network serving the Greater Los Angeles and Ventura County regions. The Homes will provide residential care for the elderly, adult day health care, skilled nursing, Alzheimer/dementia care and various types of medical treatment and support facilities.  The Lancaster home is one of two homes which will be 46,000 square feet.  It will consist of 396 beds including residential care, skilled nursing and Alzheimer’s/dementia.
